Nuked psyche

Issue 14 - November 2003 | Soul Chats

Nuclear war has no victors and no vanquished. There is no pride in developing nuclear “deterrence”, to protect man made borders, when hundreds of millions live hungry and impoverished lives. There is one Creator and all are children of the same ‘Womb.’

With utmost respect and heartfelt humility, I dedicate it to my father-in-law Sardar Amarjeet Singh, who was one of the purest and nobelest souls I ever met.

Enquiry of Science

Issue 12 - May 2003 | Soul Chats

Enquiry of science ends where mind begins and quest of the (spiritual) mind starts where scientific query ends. Millions of galaxies and celestial bodies move to a rhythm that the True Master knows.

Five Elements

Issue 11 - April 2003 | Soul Chats

The editor graciously suggested that since i have included the poem about my wife Jaslien i should dedicate this month’s poems to her. He also reminded, “not to forget to get her photograph”. Since she was a bit upset with me for the past few days i thought it would be a ‘good idea’ and a ‘right’ gesture, to get back to her good books.

Dedication: To My Friend Peter Sellers

Issue 10 - March 2003 | Soul Chats

Peter Sellers was a very dear friend. i met him at a party in London long time back, where he was looking for some ‘body’ with whom (on whom will be more appropriate), he could practice his Punjabi and Hindustani (mainly choicest of Punjabi gaalis) learnt during his Air Force days in India. Punjabi food and ‘Spirituality’ (in that order) was the ‘Binding Factor’.

In sacred memory of ‘The Heroes and Heroines of NASA’s Space Shuttle’ Columbia. i humbly dedicate this poem to Kalpna Chawla and her fellow astronauts on ‘Columbia’ mission. And to all scientists and visionaries at NASA. Don’t give up, Ever! With humility and respect.

Saint Soldiers

Issue 9 - February 2003 | Soul Chats

One such occasion was last presidential elections in America. i didn’t like ‘all pervading intellectuals’ and ‘the mighty media’ running down and taking Mickey out of presidential candidate George W Bush jr. Diatribe of childish questions, to test history and geographical ‘knowledge’ of a presidential candidate, seemed to be of more importance to them than anything else. To me, heart and heart alone, mattered.

Spiritual Ascentia

Issue 8 - January 2003 | Soul Chats

According to Darwin man is a promoted ape. Our present state of affairs confirms our beast-like status. However, on a closer look, apes appear more dignified. Spiritual Ascentia is a song written for a movie that is planned for the future.

“I” of “I”

Issue 7 - December 2002 | Soul Chats

Ego or “i” is the seed of all trouble. Man is born with a sovereign mind yet our self-obsession and selfish desires prevent us from gaining higher consciousness and the knowledge that the perfect state is attained only through His grace.

One is Infinite

Issue 6 - November 2002 | Soul Chats

“What is the purpose of Life,” asks Jetty Singh. A casual chat with a Buddhist Lama inspired Jetty to respond to the question on the existence of soul and God. The poet writes, “Can you see destination / Hidden in the path; Can you see Success Failure/ At Start; Can you see light / Hidden in a switch; Or A flame / Hidden in the wick”

The True Sovereigns

Issue 5 - October 2002 | Soul Chats

A friend of my dear American friend was reading my poems. After he finished reading, asked me “You use word Master practically in all of your poems, who is your Master”? i put the question back to him “Who is your Master”? “It used to be Yahweh but now it is God” he replied (he was a born Jew who later on converted to Christianity). “Yahweh is my Master too, so is God” said i. My friend interjected, “What about Allah then”? “Him too”, said i. “Then you have too many Masters”? “No” said i, “The only One”.

Poems Dedicated To American People And Their President

Issue 4 - September 2002 | Soul Chats

I cannot stand fanaticism of any shade or any kind. On September the eleventh, I just finished writing my poem ‘Cosmic Gestations’ when at about 2 pm, my wife Jaslin asked me to watch the TV. Towers were burning and I was shaking with anger, sadness and shame. I was crying and crying… Early next morning I wrote ‘Invincible Spirit’ and went to US Embassy to sign the Book of Condolence and handed over the poem to the Embassy people.
